Directed Retreat in Your Daily Life
What is a Directed Retreat in Your Daily Life?
This is a way of making a directed retreat in the midst of daily living. It helps retreatants integrate prayer more deeply into all things of daily life. Participants agree to:
Where did the idea come from?
The practice of reflecting on one's prayer and speaking of it to another person of faith is part of a long tradition in Christian churches known as "spiritual direction". It is neither counseling nor therapy; neither instruction nor problem solving. Rather it is conversations between two people of faith wherein one person reviews with a trained person of faith his or her prayer experience in order to interpret or discern how God may be speaking to him or her. Being guided in prayer this way has proved to help people listen more carefully and respond more sensitively to God's personal communication with them. In this way we begin to find God in all things.

a. The retreat begins with an opening session on a Sunday afternoon, 1:00 - 4:00 pm. This will include introductions, an explanation of the structure of the retreat, some suggestions for prayer, an experience of guided prayer, and meeting with one's companion to set up appointments for the week.
b. Throughout the week the retreatants pray, journal and meet with their companion. Prayer guides will be available for individual meetings each day throughout the week at different times, from as early as 5:30 AM until as late as 9:00PM.
c. The retreat closes with another gathering on the following Saturday. The day will start with the 8:30 Mass. After refreshments the session will start at 9:30 AM and conclude by 11:00 AM.
