Brian Blomquist
Brian Blomquist became principal of St. John the Baptist School in July of 2014, succeeding Marianne Moore after 22 years as SJB’s principal. He and his wife Trish, an art teacher at St. Peter’s Catholic school on Capitol Hill, have lived in Washington, DC, for 25 years. They have four children (ages 16 to 22) and have sent them all to Catholic schools. Mr. Blomquist taught language arts (grades 6-8) and served as vice principal at St. Ann’s Academy in DC. He taught in DC public schools (grades 3 and 5) for three years after working for 17 years as a reporter for newspapers in southern Maryland, on the Maryland Eastern Shore, in eastern North Carolina, as well as for the Washington Times, New York Post and Washington Post.
Macy Butler

Mrs. Butler has taught for the Archdiocese of Washington for 17 years, but this is her third year at SJB. She graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, with a B.S. in Communicative Disorders and Elementary Education. She taught two years there, then proceeded to move about the country with her Army husband. She maintained her teaching skills during that time by coaching, teaching religious education and raising five children. Having settled in the Washington D.C. area, Mrs. Butler renewed her certification with the Maryland State Department of Education and feels privileged to teach at St. John the Baptist School.
Shannon Calabrese
4th Grade Teacher
Ms. Calabrese was born and raised in Rockville, Maryland. She attended St. Jude’s Catholic Elementary School and St. John’s College High School. Ms. Calabrese went to Coastal Carolina University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduating Ms. Calabrese taught for two years at St. Joseph’s in Beltsville, and then moved back to Myrtle Beach. While in Myrtle Beach she taught grades 1, 2, and 5 for a total of six years. Ms. Calabrese has been a part of SJB for the past four years teaching the wonderful 4th grade. Ms. Calabrese is currently working on her Master’s degree in Mathematical Leadership from Notre Dame of Maryland University.
Therese Capo
First Grade Teacher
Mrs. Capo was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with an Area Study in English from Rosary Hill College in Buffalo. Mrs. Capo received a Masters of Science degree in Elementary Education with an Area Study in Reading and Language Arts from the State University of New York College at Buffalo. She is certified to teach in New York State in Grades N – 6 and taught in Grades 2, 3, and 4 for twenty years in the Diocese of Buffalo. Fifteen years ago Mrs. Capo and her husband moved to Maryland after living in Auburn, Alabama for a few years. She has her Maryland certification in Grades K – 6 and has taught at St. John the Baptist School for the past fifteen years.
Lisa Case
Resource 4 - 8; SSkills 8
Dr. Case began as the resource teacher at SJB in August 2012 but has worked in the field of special education for over 30 years. Her teaching roles have ranged from a vocational instruction for adults with intellectual disabilities, to public school teacher, to a college research associate in the field of learning disabilities at the University of Maryland. She also received her doctorate in learning disabilities from the University of Maryland but is a die-hard Cavalier fan, as she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. Dr. Case is blessed to have a family of three children, a special dog, and a husband who understands her quirks. Outside of school she loves to exercise, travel to the beach, visit family, go to concerts, and watch the Capitals!
Liz Castillo
Homeroom 5; LA 5; Math 5; Religion 6
Mrs. Castillo is originally from Iowa, and she started her teaching career 15 years ago in Omaha, Nebraska. She taught third grade for four years and currently teaches fifth grade Language Arts and Writing, sixth grade Math, Religion and Study Skills at St. John the Baptist. Mrs. Castillo graduated from Briar Cliff University in Iowa and holds a Maryland State Teaching License, certified to teach multi-grades with a specialty in Reading. She lives in Lanham with her husband and three children.
Patti Crowley
Teacher Aide 1 - 4
Mrs. Crowley has been involved with St. John the Baptist for over 20 years. She began as a volunteer when her oldest son started school there in 1995; all four of her children have since graduated from SJB. Over the course of the past 16 years, she has been employed in various positions within the school, including first grade aide, playground supervisor, and aftercare supervisor. Prior to SJB, Mrs. Crowley stayed at home to raise her children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time at the beach and with her two grandchildren.
Cristina Dal Molin
Cristina Dal Molin has been the librarian at St. John’s since 1991. She received her Associate of Arts degree from Immaculata College, Washington, D. C. and her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology including a background in Early Childhood Education from Trinity College, Washington, D. C. She worked as an Information Analyst running the library for a non-profit research firm in DC while she was working on her Master of Arts in Teaching from Trinity which was cut short when she married and decided to stay home and raise her children. She was Library Volunteer Coordinator serving as the library’s representative on the PTA at her children’s elementary school before coming to St. John’s. She served as President in 2000-2001 for the Archdiocese of Washington’s Independent Catholic Library Association (ICLA), Elementary Division, served on its Executive Board, served for ten years as Co-Treasurer and continues to contribute to ICLA’s professional development programming. She lives in Silver Spring, Maryland
Nancy Dalton
Third Grade Teacher; SS 5; Math 6
Nancy is originally from Ithaca, New York. Mrs. Dalton received a Bachelor of Arts from Potsdam University In Elementary Education and Psychology. Her Masters in Guidance Counseling was awarded to her from Bowie State University in 1993.She is certified to teach Elementary Education in Maryland and New York. Prince Georges County hired her to teach Kindergarten in Suitland, Maryland. There she also taught first and second grade. After her children were born, she stayed home until her youngest went to Kindergarten. then she started substituting at St John the Baptist. She is currently the 3rd grade teacher of Math, Science and Social Studies. She also teaches 5th grade Math and Social Studies.
Astrid Diaz
Resource Aide
Originally from Munich, Germany, Mrs. Diaz graduated in Hospitality Management before she continued and developed her Management career at the Boca Raton Resort and Club in South Florida. She and her husband moved to Silver Spring in 2000. After staying at home with her two young children, she was recruited to teach at her children’s preschool. Discovering her love for teaching, brought her to SJB where she serves in her 4th year as a Teacher Aide in Resource. Both of her children attend SJB.
Eileen Flynn
Spanish 5 - 8
Mrs. Flynn is in her seventh year teaching Spanish in Grades 5-8. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Maryland, College Park. Mrs. Flynn received both her certification in Spanish, grades K-12, and a Master’s in Leadership in Teaching in Spanish, from Notre Dame of Maryland University. Prior to teaching Spanish, Mrs. Flynn was a writer and assistant editor on legislative issues for a business association.
Patty Galan
Spanish K - 4; After Care Director
Sra. Galan was born in Guatemala. She has been living in Maryland for 5 years, ever since she came to the United States. She has been a teacher of English/Spanish for more than 15 years. She loves to try different approaches to teaching a second language, including both technology and TPR, (Total Physical Response.) She teaches Spanish K-4 at SJB.
Jennifer Griffith

Mrs. Griffith attended St. John the Baptist as a child, graduated from Academy of the Holy Cross high school, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Salisbury University where she majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Business Administration. She returned to SJB right after college and has been there for 5 years.
Anne Irwin
Technology Director; SS 7; Computers K
Mrs. Irwin has been teaching at SJB since 2003 beginning with 5th grade homeroom and religion and 5-8 Social Studies. In 2013, she began working as the Technology Director. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Media from Wilkes University. She lives in Laurel with her husband and four children.
Judy Jenkins

Mrs. Jenkins has been teaching at St. John the Baptist for 13 years. She has been instrumental in developing and building the Writing Program at SJB. Helping each child develop the necessary skills and confidence in the writing process that leads to success is one of her goals along with having some fun with words. In addition to teaching language arts, Mrs. Jenkins teaches writing to 3rd grade as well as the upper school and assists with study skills classes. She feels blessed to be part of the SJB faculty.

Ms. K is a Maryland native who graduated from Academy of the Holy Cross and University of Maryland, College Park, with a degree in Elementary Education. She received certifications in Elementary Education, Middle School Science, and Middle School Social Studies. Then, she graduated with her Masters Degree in Physical Education and Exercise Science from McDaniel College. Ms. K has taught kindergarten and 4th grade before coming to SJB. She loves to ride horses, all Pittsburgh sports, and competing in triathlons.

Chrissy Leishear
Mrs. Leishear has been a Catholic school educator for seven years and is in her sixth year at SJB as the K-8 Art teacher. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Stevenson University in Art, a Master’s degree from Notre Dame of Maryland University in Leadership in Education, and holds a Maryland State Teaching license in PK-12 Art.
Tina Levin
Kindergarten Aide
Tina Levin is starting her 11th year at SJB as a teacher’s aide in Kindergarten. Before coming to St. John’s, she taught preschool for 17 years at Colesville Presbyterian Nursery School. She was born in London, England and attended high school in Switzerland and the Canary Islands, while her family was stationed in West Africa. Upon returning to the U.S., she studied Personnel and Labor Relations at the University of Maryland as well as getting certified as a dental assistant at the Georgetown Dental School. She also became a certified preschool teacher. She now resides in Silver Spring with her husband, Steve and enjoys spending time with her two grown children and grandchildren.
Concetta Lucey
Mrs. Lucey is a graduate of the University of Maryland where she majored in Elementary Education and minored in Psychology. She taught fourth and first grade in Prince George’s County before becoming a “stay at home” mom raising a family. During that time she earned a Masters Degree from Johns Hopkins University in Early Childhood Education. During the summer of 1993 she established a kindergarten program at SJB where she is currently teaching her 23rd year. She and her husband Richard live in Silver Spring. Their four grown children and three grandchildren all reside locally.
Martin Lucey

Mr. Lucey is a 1992 graduate of St. John the Baptist. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Penn State and a Masters of Education from Marymount University. Mr. Lucey has been teaching Math at St. John’s for 13 years. He and his wife reside in Laurel.
Doreen May
Third Grade Teacher; Guidance Counselor
Mrs. Doreen May is originally from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, but has lived in the Rockville/Silver Spring area for thirty-eight years. She attended Merrimack College in North Andover, MA, where she received a BA degree in Psychology and Elementary Education. Currently, Mrs. May is pursuing the completion of a Masters Degree in School Counseling. She is certified in Elementary Education in the states of Maryland and Massachusetts, and has been a teacher in the Archdiocese of Washington, DC for twenty-five years. In addition, she has served on the ADW School Board and various other leadership committees within this Archdiocese. Mrs. May resides in Rockville with her husband. She has three children and two grandchildren.
Kathleen Morris
Homeroom 8; LA 6 - 8; Religion 8, Vice Principal
Mrs. Morris has been at St John the Baptist for 13 years. She is married to a great guy and has four children, three of whom are also teachers. Reading is a passion and she loves teaching language arts in the middle school. Her hope is that all kids will love to read in some capacity—whether novels, plays, short stories, poems, graphic novels or drama. She tries to choose books for classroom use that are both high interest for students and have a lot to offer for discussion. She feels fortunate that SJB’s HSA allots monies to teachers each year so that she can add to her bookshelves. Her classroom library is extensive and she believes that books “make a person rich.” In addition to teaching language arts, Mrs Morris also teaches Religion in grade 8. Having the opportunity to teach any subject with a faith centered foundation is one of her most treasured blessings.
Laura Pifer
ELL; Language Enrichment
Mrs. Pifer earned her Bachelor Degrees in Urban Planning and Elementary Education from Westfield State University in Westfield, Massachusetts. She moved to Maryland in 1987 and taught with Montgomery County Public Schools for nine years. During that time she earned a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Maryland. After that, she “switched gears” and became a stay at home mom for seventeen years. She began substituting at SJB while her three daughters attended the school. Mrs. Pifer fully joined the staff in 2010 and is currently teaching ELL and Reading Enrichment in grades K-2. In her free time, Mrs. Pifer performs with the Rockville Concert Band and The Maryland Band Directors Band. Mrs.Pifer is married and resides in Silver Spring.

Eileen Smith
Homeroom 6; Religion 7; Resource Teacher 5 - 8; Liturgy Coordinator
Mrs. Eileen Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and Biology from the University of St. Joseph in Connecticut. She received her Masters in Educational Administration from McDaniel College. She really had no choice about her career since her great-grandmother, her grandmother and her aunt were all teachers, so she was (almost) genetically predisposed to be in the classroom. Mrs. Smith has been teaching science at the middle school level (and loving it!) for about 4 decades. She joined the staff at SJB in 2009.
Jennifer Tifford
Mrs. Jennifer Tifford has been the Band Director at SJB since 1993. She graduated summa cum laude from Catholic University of America with a Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music Education.
