We pray that you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving with your families. Our 1st grade will lead our Thanksgiving liturgy, which begins at 10:45 am on Wednesday, before our 12:00 noon dismissal. Please remember that there is no After Care tomorrow. There is no After Care on any of the half-days before vacations.
Thank you to all of the parents and students who helped by delivering Thanksgiving meals to families last Friday. The families expressed appreciation for the meals that each SJB class prepared for them, and they mentioned that they were moved by the attention to detail and the presentation of the meals by our students.
The decoration of the packaging and the personal delivery makes the meal all the more meaningful for them. I hope that hearing their response makes Thanksgiving even more meaningful for our students.
There were many teachers, parents and students who helped with the service project. Thank you!
Get Ready for Breakfast with Santa
One of our most beloved events, Breakfast with Santa, takes place just a week after Thanksgiving weekend. Breakfast with Santa takes place in the gym on Saturday, Dec. 3. There are two sessions: one that starts at 8:30 and one that starts at 10:30.
Tickets? Go here: BWS Ticket Order Form 2016.pdf
The Secret Santa Shop will be open on Saturday and Sunday. The SJB Art Show will be open on Friday and Saturday. See the Gold Folder for more information about both events.
We still need volunteers for Breakfast with Santa. Feel free to help, alumni and grandparents! We could use the help of 7th and 8th graders. Please help us make this a fantastic day for the kids by signing up.
We need more items to sell at the Secret Santa Shop. If you can make or buy items (jewelry, soaps, stationary, plush animals, candy), please contact Secret Santa Shop co-chairs Jen Margiotta at firstname.lastname@example.org (240-432-6478) or Astrid Diaz at email@example.com (301-792-0907). If you know a business or sole proprietor who would make a good sponsor for Breakfast with Santa, please let us know. We can run ads during the breakfast. Calling All Elves_gifts.docx
Please Spread the Word About Our Open House
If you know a family that would make a good fit for SJB, please send the parents to our Open House. Open House is an opportunity for parents to tour our school with current school parents, to meet and talk with the principal and teachers, to gather information about SJB.
The first Open House will be Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 8 pm.
The second Open House will be Monday, Dec. 12, from 9 to 11 am.
After taking the school tour, parents will be able to complete SJB applications in the computer lab with assistance if they need it. There's lots more information on our Admissions page.
Buddy Bench Blessing
Father David and Father Tony blessed our new Buddy Bench during a ceremony with the students on the top of the playground hill on Monday. Learn more about the Buddy Bench on the News page of the website.
International Night was Splendid
If you were not able to make it this year, make sure you circle it on your calendar for next year. International Night was a night of great food, entertainment and culture and a celebration of the diversity in our community. There's a thank you note on the Gold Folder page.
No School on Dec. 5
Reminder – there's no school on Monday, Dec. 5, due to a required faith-formation training day for all employees of the Catholic Church. The professional day has appeared on the school online calendar since the Archdiocese added the requirement in the summer.
Quinn Cousin Making a Recovery
The Quinn family is giving thanks to everyone who prayed for Duncan Quinn, who nearly died in a skateboard accident and spent two months in a coma.
Duncan, 21, has amazed doctors with his recovery. He is sitting up and talking. His sense of humor and memory have returned.
After hearing about the accident in September, the SJB community prayed for Duncan, 21, cousin to Michael (Class of 2015) and Timothy (8th grade). We will continue to pray for him. Duncan suffered traumatic brain injury, and his recovery is far from over. We pray that he continues to make progress and to heal.
And we add our "thanks" to God for answering our prayers for him. Thank you to Mary Phillips for sending us the update after visiting with Duncan.
