Deadline for Tuition Assistance Applications Is Friday

Please complete your family's tuition assistance application before Friday. Go to your TADS account and select financial aid. Or go here:

By applying for tuition assistance, you become eligible for tuition assistance from the parish.  Last year, the archdiocese gave 26 SJB students awards of, on average, $950 each; and the parish awarded $22,500 to 22 students (the parish awards included $10,500 raised by the H.S.A.).
In addition, 8th grade students may receive awards and use them to pay for some Catholic high schools.
It's important that as many families as possible complete tuition assistance applications to establish our school's level of need.
H.S.A. To Consider Funding 8th Grade End-of-Year Activities
The H.S.A. is scheduled to meet at 7:30 pm on Wednesday night to discuss bringing 8th grade fundraising under the larger umbrella of H.S.A. fundraising. The purpose of the proposal is to bring more focus to SJB's fundraising mission and to reduce the number of fundraising solicitations that are promoted at the school.
For the past several years, 8th grade students and their parents have raised money for a trip to Hershey Park, a pool party, and some extras for the graduation dinner dance. The H.S.A. is considering providing funding, as well as limits to the 8th grade activities, and requiring some form of a service commitment from the graduating students.

Join Us For Breakfast with Santa
Your kids will love it. I know that I will love it. Parents are already working on creating an enchanting atmosphere for the kids in our school gym. The food is always great. There will be pictures and a parade of characters, decorations everywhere, and Santa.
The event organizer, Vivian Diokno (, still needs help if you can volunteer.
Also, if you have items to sell at Santa's Secret Shop, please drop them off on Friday at the Large Study across from the school office anytime between 3 and 6 pm. Please contact Jen Margiotta at (240) 432-6478 or or Astrid Diaz at (301) 792-0907 or to let us know which items were dropped off. If they happen to be all the same kind of item, if possible, please gift wrap all but one of them. The one unwrapped item can be used as a display and sold last. This way, the presents will be ready for the children to give on Christmas Day.
Also, if anyone has little shopping bags to spare, the Secret Shop could use them for bagged purchases.
And don't forget to stop by the Lyon Center to check out the SJB Art Show before you leave on Saturday.
Advent Colors May Be Worn with Uniform on Friday
Your children might have mentioned something about an Advent prayer service and door-decorating project this Friday. Students from the upper grades will pair up with students from the lower grades to perform the Advent service, and the groups will work together on making Advent-Christmas themed doors.  Here are the pairings: 8th with Kindergarten, 7th with 3rd, 6th with 1st, 5th with 2nd8th with 4th.
Students may come to school in their school uniforms with extra shirts, sweaters or accessories in Advent colors: purple, pink, violet, white.
What the Kids Should Wear for the Christmas Concert
With the Christmas Program three weeks away, we want parents to know what outfits their children will be wearing for the big concert.
Here's the form with the class-by-class list: What to Wear Christmas Program 2016.pdf
The Christmas Program is Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7 pm in the church, and the matinee is Monday, Dec. 19, at 10:45 am in the church. Classes will rehearse their songs for the show in music class over the next few weeks.

No School on Monday      This is a reminder: no school on Monday, Dec. 5, due to a required faith-formation training day for all employees of the Catholic Church. The professional day has appeared on the school online calendar since the Archdiocese added the requirement in the summer.

Coffee with 2nd Grade Parents on Thursday

I look forward to meeting with 2nd grade parents over coffee in the Lyon Center on Thursday. We'll meet right after drop off at 8 am.

Open House is Tuesday Night
We're trying to spread the word about SJB's Open House on Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 8 pm. Please tell families about our school.
Good Luck to Our 8th Graders
The 8th grade students will take the High School Placement Test all morning on Wednesday, Nov. 30. It's a stressful time for them – and their parents. There will be relief when the test is over, but many of them still have applications and application essays to complete.
We know that the Holy Spirit is with them, and we pray for them.
