We have had a large number of students out of school will illnesses over the past few weeks, but we reached our peak today with 41 sick and absent students, including several who came to school and left early because they were too sick to continue.
Parents with sick children should keep them home until they are no longer sick or contagious. If a child has been vomiting, coughing, or has had a fever within the past day, the child is too sick to be in a classroom with other children.
The question for parents is not whether the child has the strength to make it through the school day. The question is whether the child might infect others.
Our policy of keeping students home until they have been fever-free for 24 hours (without the aid of fever reducers) is to help prevent the spread of disease. Children are able to infect others with the flu virus more than a week after getting it themselves. Tonight, our cleaning crew is washing down our students' desks, and tomorrow our teachers will continue to ask students to wash their hands and clean table surfaces before eating.
And we'll say prayers for the good health of us all.
Registration of returning SJB students has begun and will take place until March 20. Please log into your TADS account or follow the instructions on the registration email notice from TADS. By completing registration by March 20, we will have a clear idea of the number of students that we will have for next year, and we will be able to give a firm response to families with children on our wait list. We hope you decide to return to SJB. If there's uncertainty, please contact me so that we can discuss your concerns.
The First Day of School of the next school year will be Tuesday, Sept. 5 – the day after Labor Day. Montgomery County Catholic schools will follow the Maryland governor's start-of-school date. Other key dates on the 2017-18 school-year calendar will be announced soon.
The Spring Play Schedule is online. Parents of students participating in the spring play should continue to check the Gold Folder page for the practice/rehearsal schedule.
The Spring Auction & April 8 Gala is right around the corner. This is an important fundraiser that benefits all of us at SJB. The Online Auction opens in March and, along with the live auction, culminates on the night of the Gala.
We need your help! Do you have an item to donate to the auction?
Here are some things that have been donated in previous years:
* Custom made Jewelry * Gift Cards * Bottles of Wine and Spirits * Tickets to Sporting Events * Time at a Vacation Home
This year, proceeds will benefit the parish community as a whole by raising funds to upgrade our playground equipment, as well as providing resources to support the teachers and students of St. John the Baptist School.
If you have questions or need further information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
Career Day is rapidly approaching.
Career Day is set for Friday, March 31, from 8:30 to 11:30 am, and and we need YOUR experiences! We are looking for a variety of people interested in spending the morning talking to our students about their careers. Many of our students are unaware of the career opportunities available to them, and this is a fantastic way to provide them with first-hand knowledge of potential career paths. This is also a great way for you to get involved in SJB and make an impact on students’ futures. For more information, please see the attached flyer or contact firstname.lastname@example.org, 301/642-8514. Thank you for your support!
