Auction is Live

The 2017 Spring Auction is live. Enjoy your shopping and bidding, and remember that proceeds benefit the school.  If you haven't bought tickets yet for the April 8 gala, buy them here.

In the 2nd grade yesterday, students made scientific observations of weight and balance. The materials they used came with science kits that were purchased with money raised at last year's auction and gala.

SJB Celebrates Creative Writers

Congratulations to our 72 young writers who decided to “Take a Chance” and enter SJB’s 24th Annual Creative Writing Contest. The judges complimented our students on how they captured their ideas into their writing.  Last Wednesday, we held our assembly to recognize all participants. Winners received Amazon gift cards, and all of our student writers received certificates and notebooks to continue their writing into the summer.  Thank you for encouraging and supporting the writing efforts at SJB.  A big thank you to Mrs. Irwin and Mrs. Ribas for their help with the contest this year.

How to Sync with the SJB Calendar

Here's a tip for parents. Sync your calendar on your phone, computer or tablet to the SJB calendar so that you never miss an event.

Here is the URL for the Google calendar that we use for SJB school events:

The Google SJB calendar is the source of the calendar that appears on the SJB website and on the Rediker Parent Portal.

If you use a Google calendar and want the SJB calendar to appear on your calendar, follow these steps. Look for the words "Other Calendars" in the margin to the left of the calendar. Click on the down arrow next to "Other Calendars" and select Add by URL.

Copy  and paste it in the rectangle, and select "Add Calendar."

Eighth Graders Win Writing Scholarships

Felipe Tassara and Michael Hippchen each won $1,500 scholarships from the Catholic Business Network for their essays on the subject of mercy.

Home School Association & School Advisory Board Meet on Wednesday

The H.S.A. has its regular scheduled meeting on Wednesday night. I have asked the H.S.A. if I could use the meeting to make a presentation to the Home School Association and to the School Advisory Board on the structure and relationship of the two boards. The meeting will be held on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm in the Library.

Exciting Career Day Planned for Friday

Thanks to many parents who have volunteered to speak to students, we are all set for an exciting Career Day on Friday. Presentations will begin at 8:30 am and end at 11:30 am. Classes will rotate from speaker to speaker throughout the school. One of our presenters will have a caregiver dog used in pet therapy. Horse Hugs for Heroes will have miniature horses, also used in pet therapy, in their presentation. John McHugh and Terry McHugh of Collins Funeral Home will discuss the spiritual mission of their work for Collins Funeral Home. They'll present only to 7th and 8th grades. Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you have any concerns. We are hoping for a visit from the police and fire departments. Other presenters include a veterinarian, yoga instructor, doctor, NASA engineer, lawyer, Zoo worker, social worker, nurse, newspaper reporter, employee assistance manager, ski instructor, event planner, and cyber-security expert.

It should be a fun and interesting day for everyone. Thank you, Courtney Gardner, for coordinating. Here's a bio list of presenters.
