Note from Ms. Moore

If you are inspired to do any Spring Cleaning during Easter break and find you have things to give and children's clothes, housewares, sheets, towels, blankets or unopened travel toiletries please consider donating them to my 19th annual trip to West Virginia.   If you mark them WV and put them in the Gym Stairwell between now and the end of the school year, I will stop by weekly to retrieve.  Thanks and Happy Easter.

Tuesday is Cultural Arts Day

On Cultural Arts Day, students get to spend the afternoon watching a movie in a classroom with their friends. There are several choices that are appropriate for different age groups. Cultural Arts Day is the one time that we show movies during school.

In the morning on Cultural Arts Tuesday, Brian Curry will bring his “Magical Math Tour” to the SJB gymnasium. All students will get to see Mr. Curry’s math magic. Parents are welcome to join us for the 1-hour show, which starts at 9 am.

After the magical math show, students in grades 2-4 will take part in the Marshmallow Challenge beginning at 10:30 am. This will be the lower-grade version of our Cardboard Challenge, which upper-grade students enjoyed earlier this year. Students will work in teams to design and create objects out of lightweight materials.

Students Play Parts in Living Rosary on Wednesday

On Wednesday, students will participate in a Living Rosary in the church at 9:40 am. Parents are always welcome to come to the church to the pray the Rosary with the students.

The SJB Honor Band -- made up of Caitlin Ober, Gabriel Diaz, Nicole Campos, Paul Thrasybule, Melanie Young, Damien Chu, Christopher Park, Julie Zalalutdinov, Ryan Rozario, Ronke Fashina -- played in the advanced band portion of the festival. The entire band will play again after Easter at King's Dominion. Congratulations, SJB Band and director Jennifer Tifford.

Thank You For the Gala & Auction

By the time we return from Easter Vacation, we will have a report on the success of the 2017 Spring Auction & Gala. Those who were there on Saturday night know that it was a great success, raising more than $30,000 for our school. The event raised more than $45,000, but it will take some time to add up expenses and determine the precise benefit to the school.

Thank you to all who attended the SJB Gala, and thank you to all who contributed by buying tickets, donating, and bidding on items. Many parents made raise-the-paddle contributions without expecting anything in return. Several parents sponsored the event.

Finally, thank you to the parent volunteers who planned and coordinated the event. The baseball theme played perfectly, the room looked great, and the whole night felt seamless to those who attended. We know from experience that an easy night for us meant many hard days of work for you, the planners. Thank you, Carmen Jenkins, Vivian Diokno, Jennifer Hazleton, Jessica Fitzgerald, Jeanine Regan, and to all of the parents who helped prepare for the auction and gala and to those who served during the gala. Again, we pledge to send a more thorough note of gratitude after Easter.

For now, the best that we can do is to say, Thank You! Happy Easter!
