It is always a fun night, and it is our single major fundraiser for the school.
Over the past few years, we have made an effort to streamline our fundraising. We hope that this is something you've noticed. Two years ago, each class was in charge of at least one fundraiser. In addition to the many minor fundraisers on the calendar, we had one major fundraiser before Easter and another major fundraiser after Easter.
The constant fundraising was clearly unsustainable -- both for our donors and for our volunteers.
Instead, we decided to focus on having just one major school fundraiser: the Spring Auction & Gala.
This would allow us to make other events, such as Family Flix and International Night, more about community building than money raising. Breakfast with Santa has remained the exception as a community building event that also raises money for the school.
Our big fundraising event for the school year is this Saturday night. Our volunteers have dedicated many hours to making this a great night. If you can't make it, please try to support the school by buying one of the auction items or even buying a ticket.
The money raised will benefit the students. It will go toward the purchase of new desktop computers for students, middle school textbooks, playground equipment, and tuition assistance for students whose families might not otherwise be able to afford a Catholic education.
The money raised will go toward other educational needs, too. The March 6 Note explained in detail how tuition does not cover all of SJB's educational expenses.

Sacramental Preparation Will Be Included in School Religion Classes Next Year
For many years at SJB, sacramental preparation has been offered only by the Parish Faith Formation Program. Next year, sacramental preparation will be taught in the school as part of the regular religion curriculum. This will be a time-saving change for many of our parents and students. They will no longer have to take religion in school plus sacramental-preparation classes on Monday nights. There will be Parish requirements -- including a parent meeting with Faith Formation Minister L.J. Milone -- before the child's First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
Great Books Program to Start After Easter
Dear SJB Parents in Grades K-3,
Shortly after Easter, the Great Books program will start in Kindergarten and grades 1-3. In order for this fantastic program to be successful, I will need a few good parent volunteers. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested. If a parent coordinator is willing to volunteer and is Virtus certified, the parent may lead a group in any class.
How does Great Books work? What does a parent coordinator do?
Teachers in grades K-3 will select 5-6 students from each grade to participate in the Great Books program. As a parent coordinator, you will be assigned a group in one grade. You will first contact the classroom teacher to coordinate a meeting time during the school day. Meetings are typically 30 minutes, but each teacher will set the schedule. During your group's meeting time, you will come to the school and meet with your group. You will read a story together and then lead a discussion or activity. It will be up to you. In the past, students have enjoyed role playing and interactive sessions. You will be asked to lead 5-6 sessions over the final stretch of the school year. Stories, materials and some activity ideas will be provided.

Box Top Winners
The March Box Tops winners are 1st, 3rd and 7th. They had over 230 Box Tops each!!! They may be out of uniform this Thursday, April 6.
Play Rehearsal Schedule
Please see the play rehearsal schedule on the Gold Folder page. It has been updated to reflect that after Spring Break, scheduled rehearsals will run from 3:00 - 5:00 every day, instead of ending at 4:30.
Next Student Service Project -- Bring a Book
Thank you to the teachers who provided the food -- the bread, meat and cheese -- for last week's service project. Our older-grade and younger-grade classes teamed up to make more than 300 sandwiches for the hungry.
Thank You, Career Day Volunteers
You made Career Day interesting, engaging, educational and enjoyable. Our students really enjoyed themselves. It was a sacrifice for each of our parents to come to SJB on a regular workday, but they came for the kids.
Most of all, we want to thank our Career Day coordinator, Courtney Gardner (Tess 7th, Jillian 5th), who planned, scheduled and coordinated the day. Thank you, Mrs. Gardner. We couldn't have done it without you.

The Maryland Warriors team (several kids in 8th grade play for the team) is holding a fundraiser for our team at Chipotle restaurant on Cherry Hill Road in Silver Spring, MD. Attached is flyer that you can bring to the restaurant and/or send to friends and family.
