It's A Time of Tradition At SJB
This week, our students will perform in SJB's 45th spring musical.
Next week, our students will line up for the annual silent procession from the school to the church for May Crowning.
Throughout the week, the traditional support of our families for our teachers will be evident to everyone during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Finally, next Thursday we will bring together two traditions -- Spring Sing and the Band Concert -- for one crowd-pleasing afternoon.
Show Tickets -- If you haven't ordered tickets for the spring play, you will be able to get them at the gym door. Tickets to Seussical Jr. are $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 3 to 13.
The show will start at 7:30 pm on Thursday and on Friday, and a full dress-rehearsal will take place at 1 pm on Wednesday. The front six rows of the matinee performance are reserved for our K-4 students.
On Friday, we will announce the winner of the Erin Tervo Memorial Scholarship before the show starts.
If you are interested in donating or getting summer reading books, there will be a Free Borrowing Table in the front hall before the play on Thursday and Friday. Help yourself. You might also want to check the Lost and Found tables for any missing belongings. Mrs. Khiel is setting up the Lost and Found tables before the shows.
- 2-Hour Delay on Friday, May 12 (school starts at 10 am)
- Friday Morning Care 7-10 am ($8 hrly)
- Half Day on Friday, May 19 (see lunch grill note below)
- No hot lunch on Thursday, May 25 (though you can order from Main & Market)
Spring Sing and Band Concert Are Combined This Year
We are trying something new this year by presenting the Spring Sing and Band Concert on the same afternoon. The concert will begin at 1:30 pm in the gym on Thursday, May 18. We'll start with a few songs by our 4th grade beginning band. Next, we'll hear our Spring Sing songs by Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade and 4th grade. Finally, we'll hear music from our 5th-8th grade Advanced Band. Some songs may include the band playing and 3rd and 4th grade students singing. Our hope is that one concert will be more convenient than two afternoon concerts for our school parents.
Our May Crowning will take place in the church on Wednesday, May 17, at 10:30 am. Everyone is invited. Eighth grade students and 2nd grade students will participate in the crowing of Mary. Eighth grade students will pose for their graduation pictures in front of the church at 9:30 am. Parents may take pictures of the students right after the professional photographer is finished.
Friday Picnic -- On Friday, we're all going outside for a picnic. The Student Council came up with the picnic idea before the Easter Vacation, but it rained on our first date. Students who order catered lunches will be able to take their lunches with them.

Sports Injury Doctor Will Talk to SJB Parents -- The Parent Series continues on May 16 at 7 pm in the SJB school library. A discussion on sports injuries in children will be led by Dr. Kessous, a local orthopedic surgeon with extensive experience in sports medicine. He was the team physician for Major League Soccer DC United and currently works with the Kirov academy of Ballet in Washington DC. He is a clinical assistant professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine and continues to teach sports and orthopedic medicine to medical residents and students. Please join us for an informative and interactive discussion. Because he is interested in tailoring his talk to the interests of the group, please send questions ahead of time to email@example.com.
Shout-Out Board - Teacher Appreciation Week -- Give our SJB teachers and staff a "Shout-Out" on the front entrance display board that has been transformed into a Shout-Out Board! Stocked with sticky notes and markers, students, parents and staff can offer messages of encouragement and thanks, and then stick them on the board. Please encourage your child to take part in this fun way to send a special message, and we hope you parents will too!
Thank you to Kathleen Langan for setting up the shout-out board.
Thank you, parents, for your support for our teachers. Our Teacher Appreciation Week starts next week, but parents have already started showing their appreciation for our teachers.
