Interested in the Technology Committee?
Are you interested in joining our Technology Committee?
If you are, please contact our technology director, Mrs. Irwin, at anne.irwin@sjbsilverspring.org.
The SJB technology committee advises the school on technology investment and direction, and members occasionally help with projects such as making hardware upgrades. The committee is made up of parent volunteers, usually with a background or expertise in technology, and chaired by Mrs. Irwin. The committee will meet on Monday, Nov. 20, at 6 pm to discuss our technology plans for the year.
Service Mass is Friday
Our service mass will be this Friday at 10:45 am and hosted by the 6th grade students. Parents are welcome to come to the service liturgy. If you do join us for mass, please park dismissal style in the lot, lined up and facing the direction of the Kazista Parish Center (or library/kindergarten). This week, we will continue to collect food for the St. Camillus Food Pantry. Each class is assigned a particular item. On Friday, students will carry the food to the altar for a blessing, and volunteer families will take the food to the pantry in the afternoon.
The St. Camillus Food Drive is just the first service project in a season of service and in a year of our theme -- Come To The Table.
To participate in SJB service, please complete this solicitation form.
Parent Series on Language Arts is Next Wednesday
Our reading and writing teachers will meet parents in the library at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 25, to answer questions about our LA program, curriculum, and overall goals for students. Math teachers hosted a Parent Series meeting in September, and parents who attended called it rewarding. We hope to see you at the LA night.
Parent Conference Signup
We hope to send parent conference schedules home next week. Conferences are scheduled for Nov. 9-10 (Thursday night and Friday morning). We emailed a very brief survey asking for your preference. If you weren't able to complete it, please complete this survey so that we can set your conference date and time.
Playground Installation Is Near
We are expecting the new playground equipment to be installed next week, and we anticipate closing the playground from Thursday, Oct. 19, to Friday, Oct. 27. Our landscaper is scheduled to clear wood chips for the installation of the new playground on Thursday or Friday. A separate crew will install the new playground pieces over three or four days next week. Once the pieces are installed and the landscaper re-spreads the wood chips, the playground will be open to everyone with two new playground pieces purchased by the Home School Association.
Thank you for your flexibility, and please keep in mind that the schedule may change with weather.
The Swing Set Question
Parents have asked if the old swing set along the fence will be replaced. There is no plan to replace the swing set along the fence. It would be a violation of the playground safety code to put a new swing set in the same spot. To comply with the playground safety code, we would need to move the swing set 16 feet from the fence and keep equipment clear for 16 feet in the other direction -- toward the center of the playground. It wouldn't leave room for other playground pieces. We are keeping the swing set that is there now.
