Parent-Teacher Conference Times Are in Gold Folder

Please look in the Gold Folder for the parent-teacher conference schedule and take a moment to read the notes about conferences. Conferences will take place Nov. 9 & 10 -- Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday morning.

There will be no school for students on the parent-conference days, but there will be child supervision in the Technology Lab and Large Study, the classroom across the hall from the school office, during designated conference times only. After Care will be available 3 to 6 pm on Thursday, Nov. 9.

Parent Series Meeting on LA on Wednesday

Language arts teachers are hosting a Parent Series meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Teachers in Kindergarten through 5th grade will talk with parents in the library. Teachers in grades 6-8 will meet with parents in room 8. Topics will include reading and writing curriculum, goals and strategies. Parents will have opportunities to ask questions. There will be child care during the parent series.

Halloween Activities

Our annual Halloween Parade is set to start at 12:30 on Tuesday, Oct. 31. The students’ costumes will be judged by the Student Council, and after the parade there will be games and activities planned by the 8th graders and supervised by teachers.

Students may come to school out of uniform and change into their Halloween costumes. Parents are welcome to come to the school to help their children change into their costumes just prior to the parade. Parents must first check in at the school office.

Parade Guidelines

During the parade, music plays while students loop around the blacktop, led by the their teachers.

Parents and relatives watch the parade from the middle.

Costumes should not be violent, gruesome or scary to the younger students. Children should be able to walk unassisted with their costumes in place.

No one should be made to feel excluded by multiple-costume plans that involve three or more boys or girls. Students may not bring toy weapons or dye their hair. It's OK if a parent oversees the temporary coloring of a child's hair.

If the weather is bad, the parade will be in the gym.

Because the parade takes place on the blacktop, the parking lot will be closed. Parents should park along the fence closest to White Oak Middle School or along the side of the school driveway to Lima Street.

Report Cards

The 1st quarter ends on Friday, Nov. 3. This is a reminder that tuition and After Care payments must be current for access to grades.

The committee will meet on Monday, Nov. 20, at 6 pm to discuss our technology plans for the year.
