Halloween Parade Was Fun For Everyone
It was great to see the parents turn out for the Halloween Parade. Decked out in their costumes, the kids put on a great display, and they had a lot of fun going to the afternoon activities that were set up for them by the 8th grade students.
A Few Notes
- All Saints Day Mass is 8:30 am on Wednesday, Nov. 1, hosted by the 3rd grade.
- Friday, Nov. 3, is the last day of the 1st quarter. Dismissal is at 12 noon on Friday, and there will be After Care from 12 to 4 pm.
- Friday is the last day the students can wear shorts to school. Winter uniform rules start with the beginning of the 2nd quarter, which is Monday, Nov. 6.
- Thanks, parents, for bringing Halloween cupcakes for Hot Lunch last Thursday. Two cupcake pans were left behind. You may pick them up in the office if they belong to you.
- Don't forget there's an option to drop off children in front of the church in the morning.
New Playground Opens
The school's new playground opened on Friday, and the children enjoyed playing on the new playground equipment. Thank you, parents, for your support! The kids wouldn't have a new playground without your help. Watch the joy that your gift brings them.
The new equipment was purchased with contributions from parents through the Home School Association. The school initially considered larger playground systems, but those options decreased as resurfacing and drainage-repair costs increased.
Parent Conferences Are Nov. 9-10
Report cards will be posted and distributed before the conferences take place. Please note that there will be child care during the conferences on Thursday evening and Friday morning (Nov. 9-10). Also, please note that the school will not have its usual book fair during the conferences.

Breakfast with Santa Is Soon
Please see the letter from Breakfast with Santa chair Kristine Ribas (Anna 3rd, Caitlyn 5th).
Breakfast with Santa is coming to St. John the Baptist School on December 2! This is a very special event that brings together the SJB community, both old friends and new, to kick off the Christmas season.
Once again you will find all the traditions we know and love, plus we will add the gift of giving this year through our partnership with the C4 Toy Drive. Families that bring a new, unwrapped toy will receive a complimentary portrait with Santa.
The theme this year is “Let it Snow!”. We will serve pancakes, bacon, eggs, fruit, pastries and more at our two sessions (8:30 am and 10:30 am). Also, Santa’s Secret Shop will be open, selling handcrafted items all priced under $6. Kids can spend their cash on gifts for others, and checks will be accepted.
Most importantly, the message to you all today is this event cannot happen without the help of the many volunteers needed for the event. There has already been a good commitment by several of you, many who are already engaged … Thank you!
But, we do need more. Please think about any way you can contribute.
Go to this signup site to see the help we need, and consider volunteering.
Also, if your family or business would like to sponsor this magical event with a cash or in-kind donation, please contact event chair, Kristine Ribas at 301-325-7626 or krribas@gmail.com
Tickets will be sold for $12 per person, with no charge for children 5 and under.
Order forms will be in next week’s Tuesday folder. Tickets will be sold after 9 am and 10:30 am Masses on Sunday in the SJB gym. Or, contact Tanya Pittas at 571-214-2352 or tipittas@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Kristine Ribas

Parents Attend Meetings with LA Teachers
Thank you, parents, for coming to the school to meet with language arts teachers. The teachers addressed many good questions about the reading/writing program. Thank you, too, to the 8th grade students who watched children during the Parent Series.
