Transformation Update

Exciting News on Home School Association-School Advisory Board

Since introducing the concept of a reorganization of the Home School Association and School Advisory Board, we have received questions via the question & comment mailbox (sjbparentleaders@gmail.com).  We also had good attendance at the October 16 HSA meeting, with parents asking insightful and meaningful questions.  Based on parent comments and feedback, we are looking at clarifying responsibilities and roles concerning financial oversight and organizational evaluation and change.

Go here to see the latest plan update.

Please submit your comments by November 18 or plan to attend the HSA meeting on Monday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 pm in the Library.

Families will be asked to vote on the reorganization the first week in December. Please watch for a ballot in the Tuesday folder.

Three Tips on Studying

It's disappointing and frustrating for a student to get a poor mark on a test after studying for it. If you have seen this happen before, the problem might be the student's method of studying.

Some ways are better than others, evidence shows.

Among the best strategies:

1. Chunking -- reviewing material in chunks over several days

2. Quizzing -- giving yourself a practice quiz, reviewing, repeating

3. Teaching -- teaching content to a parent, sibling, friend

Some less effective strategies:

1. re-reading notes

2. re-reading text

The permission form for participation as one of the elves is at the bottom of the note.

Financial Assistance Deadline is Dec. 1

You may apply for financial assistance by logging in to your TADS account (the website is http://mytads.com) and clicking on Financial Aid Assessment

Awards will be announced in March and the money awarded will go toward tuition in the 2018-18 school year. Applying for archdiocesan financial assistance is an important factor in our decision to award parish tuition assistance, as well. The Archdiocesan financial assistance page has more information.

Parent Series on Technology

Parents are welcome to attend a meeting on the school's technology integration program at 6:30 pm on Monday, Nov. 20, in the library. The technology meeting will be the third Parent Series meeting this year. We have already hosted open parent meetings with math teachers and language arts teachers.
