Hope to See You at Breakfast with Santa

We hope to see you at Breakfast with Santa, one of the biggest events of the year.

Please send your ticket order right away to tipittas@gmail.com.

When is Breakfast with Santa? It's Saturday, Dec. 1
What time?
  • 8:30 am Session One
  • 10:30 am Session Two
Where? Come in through the door by 2nd grade and walk toward the front office. Breakfast with Santa is in the SJB Gym.
What will be going on?
The place will be decorated for Christmas. There will be a delicious breakfast. Families will have Christmas portraits taken.
What else happens during Breakfast with Santa?
  • The Secret Santa Shop will be going on in the Large Study, the room across from the school office.
  • The SJB Art Show will be going on in the Lyon Center. The art show will also be open on Friday afternoon until 4 pm.
What's the Secret Santa Shop?

The purpose is to give kids a place to shop for gifts for their relatives. Items are priced with kids in mind ($1-$6). While kids shop, parents usually wait outside the door. After the kids have finished shopping, parents shop on their own with the help of current and former SJB student volunteers. The items in the shop come from donations. Gifts will be accepted through Thursday. The store operators look for fun-looking and colorful gifts that appeal to children. Please drop off any items you have at the school office and notify Crystal Vinson (cryspyfry@gmail.com / 240-997-3650) or Jen Margiotta (jenbmargiotta@gmail.com / 240-432-6478) of your contribution.

Summer Camp Deal This Week

SJB will host ClubSciKidz camp again in the summer of 2019. If parents sign up for a camp this week, they'll save $45 per camper.

Please remember to complete a tuition assistance application by Saturday, Dec. 1.

To apply for tuition assistance for the 2019-20 school year, go to the Financial Aid page in your TADS account. Or, go to the Catholic Schools tuition assistance information page and look for the link.

 Tuition Assistance Deadline is Saturday

Completion of a tuition assistance application through the Archdiocese of Washington is a requirement for families seeking parish or school assistance.

Please complete your application this week.

When parish assistance is requested in the spring, the pastor and principal will determine need by reviewing Archdiocesan aid applications. Families without ADW applications will not be eligible for parish or school assistance, including HSA-funded awards.

Last year, 41 students received ADW tuition assistance awards for a total of $37,380 for the current school year. That's $911 per ADW award. The parish and school awarded an additional $21,100. Those awards came primarily from contributions and H.S.A. fundraising.

The ADW page has information about several forms of financial assistance. Questions about ADW tuition assistance should be sent to tuitionassistanceprogram@adw.org.

Did You Know SJB Has a New, Accelerated Math Program?

The new, third-level, accelerated mathematics program started this school year in grades 5-8. Here's some information about it.

Be an Ambassador for SJB

Please consider becoming a Parent Ambassador for SJB. We need ambassadors to give tours on Monday (6:30-8:00 pm), distribute flyers, or write thank you notes to visiting families.

Let us know if you can deliver flyers to a nearby day-care center or nursery school, and we will send some color flyers home with your child. Call the office (301-622-3076), or email georgine.baugher@sjbsilverspring.org.

If you can help with the Open House or write thank you notes, contact Parent Ambassadors director Jackie Dugroo at jbdugroo@verizon.net.

Tell Your Friends About Our Open House on Dec. 3 and give them the extra flyer we sent you in today's Gold Folder.

Tell them about our new math program, too!

Here is the Open House flyer.

Makeup Picture Day is Thursday, Nov. 29

Students getting their pictures taken may come to school dressed up and out of uniform this Thursday.

Do You Need to Update Your Virtus Certification?

If you became Virtus certified in 2013 or earlier, you will need a new background check. The process doesn't take long. Call Martha Kerley in the Parish Office at 301-622-1122 and schedule a background check. Bring two government ID's for your appointment, and you should be finished in under 10 minutes. The new background check became necessary when the Archdiocese Child Protection Office started using a more advanced digital background check system in December of 2013. Thank you for your cooperation in the name of child safety.

Register for SJB Intramural Basketball

Registration for SJB Intramural Basketball is now open for all students in grades K-8th. The grades 3rd-6th Boys League, informally referred to as the Starbucks League, will play Saturday mornings beginning Dec. 8. The Grades 3rd-6th Girls League will also start on Dec. 7 or 8. The Co-ed League for 7th and 8th graders will be held on either Friday or Saturday nights beginning the weekend of Dec. 7. Kids in grades K-2nd will start playing on Saturdays in January. No practices, just games! Registered CYO players also are encouraged to sign up for intramural hoops -- the more court time, the better! It's fun and it brings the SJB Community together. All intramural games will be played in the SJB gym. The leagues are open to all grade appropriate students, parishioners, and any age appropriate player from any other school. Register or learn more at SJB Athletics. Let's hoop it up, SJB!
