 Celebrate Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated at SJB with a combination of fun, spirit, service, family and prayer.

It begins on Monday with Student Appreciation Day and Spirit Day. Students may come to school out of uniform and wearing their SJB spirit wear.

On Tuesday, students will partner with their buddy classes for a buddy activity.

On Wednesday, we will form a Living Rosary in the church and pray the Rosary together at 2:15 pm. Before we say the Rosary, students will hear from a representative of a Solar Grid Service Project in Puerto Rico that our school is supporting with hurricane relief aid.

Our most eventful day of Catholic Schools Week is Thursday, Feb. 1. Parents are invited to the school for our Open House from 8:30 to 10:30 am. Many parents come to the school for this annual tradition, and the children always love to have their parents join them in the classroom. At 10:45 am, we attend Family Mass together. The Mass is hosted by the 2nd grade.  After Family Mass, we will have a Family Lunch in the gymnasium. Please order  your family lunch now because we will not be able to take orders on the day of the event.

Friday is Roll Out of Bed & Read Day, which means students may come to school wearing their pajamas. Of course, we will have reading time in the morning. Our annual Basketball Foul Shot Contest takes place at 10:45 am.

Parent Survey on Special Education in Catholic Schools

We would like you to respond to a survey  on the education of students with special learning needs in Catholic schools, including SJB. The information you provide will help the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of Washington as it forms instructional and enrollment goals for Catholic Schools over the next five years.

Responses go directly to Maggie Hubbard, the Director for Special Education for the ADW schools, and will be used only by the Catholic Schools Office to help determine policy. Thank you for your cooperation.

Half Day on Feb. 2

As a reminder to everyone, the school day ends with noon dismissal on Friday, Feb. 2.

On Friday night, many SJB kids will return for Friday Night Bingo at 6:30 pm. Here's the order form for Bingo.

Bingo is Next Friday

If your child is going to Bingo Night next Friday (Feb. 2), you must order ahead. There will be no sales at the door.  Here is the order form for Bingo at $7 per student.

Bingo is planned and coordinated entirely by parent volunteers. All students from pre-k to 8th grade are welcome to come to the gym from 6:30 to 9 pm. Students in 2nd grade and below must have a parent supervising them.

Pizza must be pre-ordered ($2/slice). Please order pizza (specify plain or pepperoni) and water on the Bingo order form. Children with pizza orders may come at 6 to eat. Additional Bingo packs may be purchased for $5/pack (the max is 3 packs per child).

It's Time to Get Your Eighth Grade Valentines

Support the Class of 2019 with Valentines.

It is a longtime tradition for SJB 8th graders to make Valentines for students in lower grades. The lower-grade students order the Valentines by Feb. 2, receive them by Feb. 7, personalize them and return them to the 8th grade by Feb. 9.

Then, on SJB Valentine's Day (Tuesday, Feb. 13), 8th grade students distribute the Valentines to students all over the school.

The 8th grade students pool the money that they earn and save it for their end-of-year trip to Hershey Park.

Valentines have been done this way at SJB for more than 20 years. Here is your Valentine Order Form.

Intramural Volleyball

Registration for SJB Intramural Volleyball is open for boys and girls in grades 6-8.  This is a relaxed atmosphere where we work on basic skills for the first part of the season and then some game situations towards the end of the season.  Our goal is for the kids to have the skills to be able to try out for their JV Volleyball teams in high school.  Come out and practice with us on Sunday nights from 6-7:30, it's a fun time with your friends before the start of the week! Here is the volleyball flyer.
