On-A-Roll Award.JPG

Congratulations to our middle school On-A-Roll award recipients for the second quarter. The faculty has recognized their hard work in various subject areas, their special-subject classes and for overall Christian character. The lower-school awards ceremony was held the previous week. Names of award winners are posted in the front hallway for the duration of the quarter. The next awards will be announced at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Catch Our Students on YouTube

At the Cardboard Challenge

Check out this time-lapse video of the Cardboard Challenge start to finish. Thanks, Mr. Green (Rowen 5th).

This is one super-cute video of SJB Cardboard Challenge students giving a ride in one of their rolling projects to PreK students.

The video appears on SJB's YouTube page.

Arts & Academics Judges Needed

One of our great SJB traditions is Arts & Academics. Projects are put on display from grades K-8 for two days in March. Students give oral presentations on art, science, social studies. We ask parents to help by serving as judges of the 6th grade and 7th grade presentations.

Please consider signing up to be a judge. Arts & Academics is a source of pride to the children of SJB.

 Enrollment & Registration Questions

Please try calling the parent support line if you have questions about your TADS account. Phone calls are answered by real TADS representatives, not an automated voice system.

Hours: Monday–Friday from 8 am to 9 pm

Phone: 612.548.3320 or 800.477.8237

In most cases, the TADS representative will understand your question and resolve your issue quickly. When parents ask me, I often act as an intermediary by relaying the question to our TADS representative and sending the response to the parent. By calling the support line directly, you can save time by eliminating a layer.

If the issue was created by the school, TADS will tell you. If you believe the school should know about a problem, please tell us. If you are going to be late in making a payment, please tell us ahead of time, and inform us of the date that you will make the payment.

Reminder: Please remember to register for the 2019-20 school year.

Tuition Agreements will be sent out in April.

Morning Drop-Off Reminder

Our morning drop-off procedure is designed for safety of children and efficient flow of traffic. Please note that cars should be arriving in the main school parking lot from one direction -- Lima Drive -- and not from the direction of New Hampshire Avenue. Thank you, parents, for cooperating with us.

After dropping off children along the gold line, parents may park in the lot and walk up to join their children as they wait with their classmates for the 8 am bell.

Bingo is After Noon Dismissal Friday

Kids Bingo -- Friday, Feb. 15, from 12 noon to 3 pm in the gym

We hoped to give some parents a break by scheduling Bingo on a half-day afternoon. A few SJB staff members have agreed to help supervise the children.

Here's a message from Bingo coordinator Courtney Gardner (Jillian 7th):
Hi everyone, we'd really like to ensure that all the kids who would like to attend Bingo are able. Typically we require kids in PreK-2 to have an adult with them - in part to help them with the game and in part to help supervise if they get bored playing :-). Because we've moved it to the afternoon, I don't want to be too strict with that rule, especially if it means kids can't come. So if you need help with your child, please let me know, if you're able to stay and help, please let me know, and hopefully I can do some match-making - courtneycgardner@gmail.com.

Also, if you're picking up at 3, and can spare 5-10 minutes to help us break down, that would be a huge help. We need to get the gym ready for basketball. Thanks again!

Bingo does require a ticket and payment. Pizza is extra. The original Bingo form will work for Bingo on Feb. 15.

Living Rosary -- Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 2:15 pm in the church. Classes are bringing special intentions and will pray to Mary.

Open House for SJB Parents is Tuesday, March 5, from 8:20 to 10:20 am

Open House for parents was cancelled by the 2-hour weather delay during Catholic Schools Week. We rescheduled the Open House for 8:20 am on Tuesday, March 5. We're starting a little earlier, right right after the morning prayer, so that parents have a chance to visit classrooms and still make it to work for the day.

Parents are welcome to come to the school and sit in their child's classroom for one class period (8:20-9:00), two class periods (8:20 to 9:40), or three class periods (8:20 to 10:20).

There will be opportunities for parents to leave at any time in the morning. Parents are welcome to stay with their children for snack time (10:20 to 10:40 am). The mid-morning break includes a 10-minute recess for students in Kindergarten through third grade. Parents may stay for the morning recess, too.

SJB Gala is Saturday, March 23

The gala is our major fundraiser for the school. This year's gala theme is March Madness, so you won't miss NCAA basketball tournament games by coming to the gala. The games will be on, and it will be fun, as always.

The gala will take place from 7 to 10 pm at the Knights of Columbus on Rosensteel Avenue. Here is the map.

 SJB March Gala Madnessgala.jpg

Tickets will be available soon, and auction items will be placed online for bidding. Gala tickets are $55 each or $100 for a couple.

If you can't make it to the gala, please buy a ticket or go to the auction website and make a donation. If tuition covered all of the cost of running a school, we wouldn't need to raise money. Tuition doesn't cover all of the cost, and we are asking for your help.

Gala proceeds will go toward tuition assistance, technology, curriculum, and climbing playground equipment.

Auction organizers are seeking items to put up for bid. They are interested in items, activities, services, trips, vacations. If you have something that you are willing to put up for the auction, please contact the organizers right away. Your gift is a donation to SJB.

Emerson Branch (Logan 4th) is chair of the gala committee and can be reached at sjbgalateam@gmail.com. We are looking for a parent or a couple of parents willing to serve as protege to Jeanine and Chris Regan (Madelyn 2nd), the parent-volunteers who manage the auction website.

Bowie Baysox "Read and Hit a Homerun" Reading Program

From Maria Hippchen (Nick 8th), coordinator: The Bowie Baysox are in their 23rd year of this wonderful program to promote reading, and I wanted to give you information about important dates and some exciting changes!  As many of you know, all the students need to do is read 4 books inside or outside the classroom.  Books read in January through  March 22 will count.  Posters should arrive within the next two weeks, and each student will simply check the box next to his/her name after each book is read.  Upon completion of this program, each student will now receive 2 tickets (one can be used by an adult) to the Bowie Baysox baseball game on Saturday, May 18 at 6:35 pm where your child's accomplishments will be celebrated!  Another change is that tickets will be distributed electronically.

I have been running this fun and worthwhile reading program for many years, and the switch to electronic tickets will make it even easier for everyone.  After 15 years at this wonderful school, my youngest child will soon be graduating. I am hoping someone will be willing to take it over for me.  Please let me know if you are interested.

Thanks so much!

Get a Tiny Saint for Your Child and Help the SJB Knights

Who wouldn’t want to have a Saint in their pocket? Or hanging off their keychain or backback? Well, here’s your chance. The St. John the Baptist Knights of Columbus Council #11106 is selling keychains of St. John the Baptist to raise money for our Council’s Charities. The Knights wanted to make the Tiny Saints available to the wonderful students and staff of St. John the Baptist Catholic School. If you would like a St. John the Baptist  keychain, please return this form with your child’s information below and send in your $5 donation (cash or check) to the St. John the Baptist Knights of Columbus Council #11106. Forms and donations can be turned into the front office or to your child’s teacher. Please return this form and payment by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18th, 2019.  The saints will be distributed the following week to the children. Right now, we only have 100 of these Tiny Saints, so get your form in early. If we have more than 100 orders, do not worry. We will order more. It will only take about a week to ship. If you have any questions, please contact Chris Regan, Community Chair, at crregan83@gmail.com.

Please Be Careful of Email Fraud Targeting Churches

In the scheme, a thief sends an email message to a member of the church. The thief asks the church member to buy a gift cards or and iTunes card and to send the scratch-off number. The email will come from an email address very similar to the email address of a priest or minister at the church. A few people have received such emails from a phony email account claiming to belong to Father David, our pastor. Please don't open the email if you receive it.
