Arts & Academics Returns

Call for Judges

The Arts and Academics showcase returns this year! Families are invited to view the large display of work from every grade level on Wednesday, March 15th from 7 to 8 pm in the Gym.

CALL FOR JUDGES! We're looking for volunteers to judge the 6th Grade Art Demonstrations and the 7th Grade Science Presentations on Tuesday, March 14th. Students have worked hard on their topics over the last few months and are ready to present! Please see the flyer for more information and pass it along to anyone who might be interested in volunteering their time.

Potential science judges should contact Mr. Daly at kevin.daly@sjbsilverspring.org.

Potential art judges should contact Mrs. Castillo at liz.castillo@sjbsilverspring.org.

Judging is a great opportunity for 5th and 6th grade parents to preview what's in store for their child next year at Arts & Academics.

How to Get A&A Display Boards

All students in grades 5-8 must have display boards for their Arts & Academic research papers, projects, and presentations. The boards can be purchased for $7 (cash or check) by students during lunch when Ms. Schwab visits the classrooms. Checks should be payable to SJB.

Grades K-8 Perform Steel Drum Concert

Thank you, parents, for coming out to support the students as they performed songs on steel drums on Friday afternoon. Steel drum instructor Kevin Martin spent the week at SJB as an artist in resident thanks to a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.

Reminders:
  • Dismissal is at 12 noon on Friday, Feb. 17
  • No school on Monday, Feb. 20, for the Presidents Holiday

 See the SJB online calendar

Prayers for Our 8th Grade Students

We are praying for our 8th grade students as they wait anxiously on high school admissions decisions.

Some private and Catholic high schools will start notifying our 8th grade families this Friday afternoon. Others will send notice on Friday, Feb. 24.

How have SJB 8th graders done in their high school applications? Where have they gone to high school?

Find out.

Interested in Joining the HSA Board?

Come to the HSA & School Board meeting on Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 pm in the Library. Board members will discuss the efforts to recruit volunteers and answer questions from interested school-parent leaders.

Please Help the Parish by Taking a Short Survey

We are asking registered SJB parishioners to complete this anonymous survey:

 https://forms.office.com/r/bkpgHEHJqB

The purpose is to gather data on Mass attendance and ministries participation in our parish. The information will be used by the Parish Pastoral Council to organize an in-parish reflection on strategies to restore and increase a greater participation in both. The format of the general meeting will be the same as was employed for the synod reflection in 2022. All responses are anonymous.  If you do not have access to a computer or a smart phone, please pick up a paper copy of the survey in the church at Mass on Sunday, February 12.

Thank you for your participation.

This Parish Survey may be completed using the link below or this QR code.

The survey is also on the St. John the Baptist parish website
