Please respond using this link if your child will attend the Friday-morning donut reception for students and their special friends (relatives, grandparents, friends, parents) on Friday morning, Feb. 21, from 7:45 to 8:15 am in the Lyon Center.

We'd like to know how many donuts to get.

We look forward to our Friday morning get-together. And please forward this invitation with directions and parking information to your child's special friend or relative.

Enroll Now for 2020-21 Through March 6

We hope that all of our wonderful families will remain at St. John the Baptist.  To ensure each student's spot in the classroom for 2020-21, we ask parents to complete enrollment by Friday, March 6. An accurate enrollment projection improves planning for the next school year. Enrollment is done each year on TADS.

A Report from the Third Grade

Third graders are quite proud of themselves these days! They have finished learning all of their uppercase and lowercase cursive letters. Beginning next week, they will be writing in cursive most of the time during the day and at home for homework. What an accomplishment! Math class is also an exciting place to be! Our third graders have been practicing their multiplication facts and are now working with the operation of division. In Religion, students are studying the five kinds of prayer and will be writing the dismissal prayers for the month of March. In Language Arts, the class is reading that funny novel, Mr. Popper's Penguins. Soon our students will choose a penguin, research some important facts about it, and create a rookery (nest) where it can live. Stop by our classroom any time. You will be amazed at all that we are learning each day!

Congratulations to On-A-Roll Award Winners!

Classes from Pre-K to 8th grade came to the gym for an honor-roll assembly last week. Students in each grade were recognized as they received 2nd quarter awards for academics, effort, improvement, and kindness. Students were reminded that there will be another awards ceremony after the 3rd quarter and a final ceremony after the 4th quarter.

Prayers for Students and Parents

Each morning in school, we pray for the healthy recovery of sick family members. This week we pray for our 8th grade students as they prepare to receive high school admission notices. Catholic high schools will send decisions by mail on Thursday and by email on Friday to their Catholic-school 8th grade applicants. In these stressful days especially, our 8th graders are in our prayers.

Water Issue on Tuesday

We asked the students to hold off on drinking water or washing food with water on Tuesday morning while we checked on discoloration coming from some faucets. We had WSSC come out and check the water. The WSSC inspector said high pressure had knocked off some rust inside a water line, causing the color. After flushing the system, the discoloration disappeared, and WSSC said the clear water was safe to drink. We wanted to be safe, so we kept the students from drinking from water fountains until we flushed the system a little more. The system is all clear today.
Each water outlet at SJB is tested routinely in compliance with state water-safety regulations for schools.
In the most recent inspection, 57 samples were collected from 57 drinking water sources in four campus buildings using a first draw method. No samples showed lead concentrations greater than the EPA/COMAR 26.16.07 Action Level (AL) of 20 micrograms per liter (μg/L).

Thank You for the Valentine's Treats, Parents

Thank you, parents, for helping with treats for St. Valentine's Lunch last Thursday, Dec. 13. Thank you also for making the treats and sending them to school and for helping with cleanup.
