Events Reshuffled by Weather
Bingo, Open House, Living Rosary Have New Dates
Here are the new dates and times for events that had to be rescheduled due to last week's weather:
Kids Bingo -- Friday, Feb. 15, from 12 noon to 3 pm in the gym
Open House for SJB Parents -- Tuesday, March 5, from 8:20 to 10:20 am
Living Rosary -- Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 2:15 pm in the church
Kids Bingo will take place on a scheduled half-day. Dismissal is at 12 noon on Feb. 15. We will have After Care that day from 12 to 4 pm.
Bingo Requires Ticket -- Bingo forms turned in for last Friday will work for Bingo on Feb. 15. If you still want to order tickets for Bingo, complete this form and send it to the school office with payment this week. Please remember that pizza is not included with the Bingo payment. Pizza is extra.
Parents of children in PreK to 2nd grade, please read the language on the form. Children in PreK to 2nd grade must have an adult to supervise them.
Bingo coordinator Courtney Gardner (Jillian 7th) is looking for parent volunteers to help with Bingo.
Open House for parents was cancelled by the 2-hour weather delay last Thursday. We rescheduled the Open House for 8:20 am on Tuesday, March 5. We're starting a little earlier, right right after the morning prayer, so that parents have a chance to visit classrooms and still make it to work for the day.
Parents are welcome to come to the school and sit in their child's classroom for one class period (8:20-9:00), two class periods (8:20 to 9:40), or three class periods (8:20 to 10:20).
There will be opportunities for parents to leave at any time in the morning. Parents are welcome to stay with their children for snack time (10:20 to 10:40 am). The mid-morning break includes a 10-minute recess for students in Kindergarten through third grade. Parents may stay for the morning recess, too.
Save Date: SJB Gala is Saturday, March 23
The gala is our major fundraiser for the school. This year's gala theme is March Madness, so you won't miss NCAA basketball tournament games by coming to the gala. The games will be on, and it will be fun, as always.
The gala will take place from 7 to 10 pm at the Knights of Columbus on Rosensteel Avenue. Here is the map.
Tickets will be available soon, and auction items will be placed online for bidding. Gala tickets are $55 each or $100 for a couple.
If you can't make it to the gala, please buy a ticket or go to the auction website and make a donation. If tuition covered all of the cost of running a school, we wouldn't need to raise money. Tuition doesn't cover all of the cost, we are asking for your help.
Gala proceeds will go toward tuition assistance, technology, curriculum, and climbing playground equipment.
Auction organizers are seeking items to put up for bid. They are interested in items, activities, services, trips, vacations. If you have something that you are willing to put up for the auction, please contact the organizers right away. Your gift is a donation to SJB.
We welcome parents who want to help with the auction and gala. Emerson Branch (Logan 4th) is chair of the gala committee and can be reached at sjbgalateam@gmail.com. We are looking for a parent or a couple of parents willing to serve as protege to Jeanine and Chris Regan (Madelyn 2nd), the parent-volunteers who manage the auction website.

Bakers - Bakers should make two dozen nut-free cupcakes and bring the cupcakes to the kitchen Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning before 11 am. Please label any container you use if you would like the container returned to you.
Decorators -- Decorators should arrive from 10 to 11 am on Thursday, Feb. 14, to help hang hearts and cover tables with plastic tablecloths.
Distributors -- Parents are needed from 12 to 12:45 pm on Thursday, Feb. 14, to help hand out cupcakes at both lunches.

SJB Holds 2nd Quarter Awards Assembly
Academics and Christian spirit awards were presented to lower-grade students last week and upper-grade students this week. The names of the award winners will hang in the school hallway by the office until the end of the 3nd quarter, when we will have our next awards ceremony.
If I Were President...
Here's what some of our 4th grade students would do:
- I would listen to what students want.
- I would think about how to stop bad deeds.
- I would think of making a holiday where you dress in your PJ's all day.
- I would increase food pantries.
- I would stop poverty all over the world.
- I would think of more fun ways to get around.
- I would think of creating a kind of medicine so people don't get cancer.
- I would increase the number of churches in the world.
- I would think of a nickname like turkey sandwich.
- I would start a dog shelter for homeless dogs.
- I would increase the time that children get to play.
- I would start a day every week called "Find a Friend."
Bowie Baysox "Read and Hit a Homerun" Reading Program
A message from Maria Hippchen (Nick 8th): The Bowie Baysox are in their 23rd year of this wonderful program to promote reading, and I wanted to give you information about important dates and some exciting changes! As many of you know, all the students need to do is read four books inside or outside the classroom from January 1 through March 22 will count (books read earlier this month will count). Posters should arrive within the next two weeks, and each student will simply check the box next to his/her name after each book is read. Upon completion of this program, each student will now receive two tickets (one can be used by an adult) to the Bowie Baysox baseball game on Saturday, May 18, at 6:35 pm. At the game, your child's accomplishments will be celebrated! This year, tickets will be distributed electronically. I have been running this fun and worthwhile reading program for many years, and the switch to electronic tickets will make it even easier for everyone. After 15 years at this wonderful school, my youngest child will soon be graduating. I am hoping someone will be willing to take it over for me. Please let me know if you are interested. Thanks so much!

SJB Produces Lion King
The spring show is a great tradition at SJB. The school has had annual performances by middle-school students for more than 25 years. Many school families and alumni come to the show.
Our show begins on Wednesday, May 1, with a dress rehearsal matinee. Evening performances are 7 pm on Thursday and Friday, May 2 & 3, in the gym.
Rehearsals Under Way
Here is the rehearsal schedule for the spring musical, The Lion King Jr. It appears below, too. The rehearsal schedule will be posted on the Gold Folder webpage, and it will be updated. Students in the play and parents of students in the play should check Mr. Shillingford's emails and the Gold Folder page for updates.
Cast members are working hard on their songs and lines, and staff members have added support by helping with costumes and sets. Here is the behavior contract for each student participating in the show.
Fifth grade students will not need to attend rehearsal until Feb. 19 and 26.
Rehearsals are from 3:20 to 4:30 pm in the Lyon Center.
