Principal's Note 5/5/21

Dear SJB Families,

I am writing today with a time-frame for end-of-school-year events and a framework for the 2021-22 school year.

Below you will see a list of events and activities from now until the last day of school. More information on class picnics and Field Day will come from your child's classroom teacher and go up on the Gold Folder.

Summer assignments and school-supply lists will be posted on the website by Tuesday, June 15.

The Plan for Next School Year

Our plan at SJB is to have school entirely in-person in 2021-22.  We will not offer distance learning as an option.

Here are our current expectations for the next school year:

  • Masks will be required.
  • Students will remain in grade-level cohorts while teachers move from classroom to classroom.
  • We will practice distancing and regular handwashing.
  • We will ensure that there is clean air filtration and strong ventilation. Morning screenings will occur in homerooms instead of on the parking lot.
  • Grade-level groups may visit the art room and library on a limited schedule.
  • Music will return to SJB classes.
  • Regular Spanish classes will return to classes from Kindergarten through 4th grade. Spanish will continue in 5th through 8th grades.
  • We will offer catered lunch, but we won't have Thursday Hot Lunch or large assemblies.
  • We will adjust our plan for the 2021-22 school year as new information becomes available, and we will continue to adjust the plan at the end of each quarter.
  • We will continue to consult the health department school contact-tracing team when there are positive cases in our SJB community. Students will be able to shift to distance learning if there is a required period of isolation or quarantine.
  • We will try our best to continue to provide specific communication about what's happening and what's coming.

Many details of the 2021-22 school year plan will be worked out over the summer. Government and church policies may affect some of our plans.

Still, we think it's important that we share our current framework for the next school year with the families that have stuck with us through the current school year.

Thank you for your enduring support for SJB.

May Crowning is Wednesday, May 12

The annual May Crowning procession will take place at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 12.

It's tradition that students bring flowers and wear white or navy blue shirts for the May Crowning procession.

Instead of having the ceremony and prayer service in the church, the crowning of Mary and the prayer service will take place outside this year.
