Principal's Note 5/30/18

Graduation -- Our 8th graders have completed exams and are set to graduate during a special mass and ceremony on Saturday morning at 10 am.

Dinner Dance -- On Friday night, Father David, Father Tony, and the SJB faculty will join the 8th graders and their families for a dinner dance at Argyle Country Club.

7th Grade Moves to Porch -- This week, you might have noticed that the 7th grade students moved to the school porch during morning drop-off time. The porch has always been reserved for 8th graders, so it's something of a rite of passage for the 7th graders to take the opening when the 8th graders finish exams and establish their place on the porch -- and at the top of the school.

It's also another sign that we're close to the end of the school year.

The first sign of the home stretch is Field Day.

Ms. K planned another fun and active Field Day, and our 8th grade students were helpful and encouraging as they ran the athletic events.

Assignment/Supply List To Go Home Soon -- Next week, we plan to send home -- and post -- summer assignments and school supply lists to help our families get ready for summer.

Scantron Reports -- We will send end-of-year individual Scantron reports to parents, unless there is an outstanding account balance. Report cards will be posted at the end of the final week of school.

Last Day -- Our last day of school is Friday, June 15. We will have our final mass of the school year at 10 am. It will be hosted by the Kindergarten. Following the mass, we will host a reception for our parent volunteers outside the school library.

Half Days -- We will have half-days on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of that week. There is no After Care on Friday, June 15, the last day of school.

Volunteer Appreciation Reception -- During the 10 am mass, the SJB faculty will present our parent volunteers with small gifts of appreciation.

Dates Set -- Many key dates are set for the start of the next school year, and they have been added to our calendar.

Buddy Picnic -- The Buddy Family Picnic and New Family Orientation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Kinder Open House -- Kindergarten Open House will be at 11 am on Thursday, Aug. 23.

1st Day of School -- The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 29.

Back to School -- We will have a Back to School reception and community fair in the church courtyard at 6 pm on Thursday, Aug. 30.

Welcoming remarks to families will begin at 6:30 pm on Back to School Night.

Welcome Back Mass -- Our Back to School Mass will be at 10:45 am on Friday, Aug. 31, which will be a half-day.

Become A Room Parent

One great way to ease into a leadership role at SJB is by becoming a room parent. It's also one of the best ways to get to know other parents. To volunteer, complete the signup form. Contact our room parent coordinator, Jeanine Regan, at jeanine.regan@sjbsilverspring.org to let her know that you are interested in becoming a room parent.

Be a Buddy Family 

Please see the flyer to sign up to be a Buddy Family. This is a great way to welcome and support a new SJB family. Thank you to Brian and Hilary Lappin (Colin 3rd, Ava 1st) for coordinating our Buddy Family program.

Camp Balances Due

SJB Camp balances are due this Friday, June 1st. Please send your payment to the office.

Prayers for Grandparents -- Mr. Corraya and Mrs. Rozario

We pray for Benjamin Corraya, grandfather of Shreya Corraya (4th) and Ryan Rozario (8th). Mr. Corraya died on May 25. 

We pray also for Mary Rozario, grandmother of Ryan Rozario. Mrs. Rozario died on April 28.

Prayers for Senora Galan's Mother

We continue to pray for Senora Galan's mother, who has been sick and who currently is in the hospital.

Prayers for Former SJB Teacher Bernice Foley

Mrs. Foley taught at SJB from 1984 until 1992, and she and her husband raised three children in our parish. Mrs. Foley's funeral will be on June 4 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Libertytown, Md., according to her daughter, Ruth (Foley) Riley. We pray for Mrs. Foley and for her family.

Help Ms. Moore for Annual West Virginia Trip

 Are you doing some spring cleaning? If so, Ms. Moore will be making her annual trip to West Virginia on June 2nd....earlier this year. She is happy to pass along to the families in Appalachia gently used baby and children's clothing, all sorts of linens (sheets, towels. blankets, pillows), household items and personal hygiene items (even travel sizes). The latter because the people are not permitted to use their food stamps for toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, etc.  You may put your donations in the stairwell leading to the gym and Ms. Moore will check there each week.   Please mark your bags WV.   Donations are needed by the end of May.   Thanks.
