Status of Plans for the 2021-22 School Year

SJB remains on track to open Aug. 31 for in-person school and to operate on a regular-schoolyear schedule. See the calendar here.

The school will continue to require mask-wearing, distancing, daily screening, and regular handwashing. Increased air ventilation and frequent cleaning will continue.

Students will stay in grade-level cohorts until vaccinations are available to children under age 12.

The requirement that students remain in grade-level cohorts means that the school cannot yet plan after-school community events like the Back to School Barbecue and Family Flix.

When vaccinations become available to younger children and the Archdiocese of Washington updates its current operations policy for Catholic schools, the parent-leaders on the SJB School Advisory Board and Home School Association will be notified that they can consider planning after-school community events in August and September.

Last week, the school was able to have an outdoor band concert for lower grades and its annual Field Day for all grades. Both events required extensive planning and constant supervision.

SJB will continue to look for ways to safely celebrate its Catholic identity and community in the new school year. Until vaccinations are available to all students, school events will look different from outside-the-school community events for vaccinated adults.

Dismissal is 12 noon on Friday, June 11.
