SJB Classes Celebrate Valentine's Day
Students distributed cards, shared treats, and celebrated with class parties. The school moved the Valentine celebration up a day to Tuesday to avoid the conflict with Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten Season of fasting, sacrifice, and almsgiving.

Reminders:
There is no school on Friday, Feb. 16, and Monday, Feb. 19. On Friday, there will be staff professional development. The Presidents Holiday is Monday.

Thank you, parents, for registering your children for the 2024-25 school year. If you have not yet registered your children for next year, please do so right away or contact the school office. Enrollment allows the school to plan the budget, staff, and learning resources for the next school year.
Friday is the Deadline to Apply for Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance
Families have until Friday, Feb. 16, to apply for tuition assistance through the Archdiocese of Washington. Applications are completed on TADS. Log into your account and apply for financial aid. The Archdiocese will notify families in the next two months of financial aid awards for the 2024-25 school year. There are 44 current students who have received $54,900 from the Archdiocese for the current school year. Families must apply for Archdiocesan assistance in order to be eligible for scholarship aid from the school and parish.
Congratulations, Students
Congratulations to the students who gave their best effort in the 2nd quarter. Some students received individual recognition at the 2nd Quarter On-A-Roll Awards, held earlier today, and many other students received compliments on their effort and achievement.

Volunteer to Judge Arts & Academics -- Receive 1 volunteer credit by judging the arts projects presentations by 6th grade students from 5:30 to 7:45 pm on Tuesday, March 12. Expectations for Lunch Duty

It is important that lunch-duty volunteers understand and agree to follow the guidelines below:
Expectations of Volunteers at Lunch
1. Volunteers must have child-protection certification before signing up for lunch duty.
2. Volunteers must watch the children during lunch duty.
3. Volunteers must be willing to address students who misbehave by pointing out the lunchtime rules and reporting misbehavior to the classroom teacher.
3. Volunteers must know the lunch duty rules.
Expectations of Students at Lunch
1. Lunch Times:
K-4 Lunch 12:00 to 12:20
5-8 Lunch 12:20 to 12:40
2. Students may not give away food, ask someone else for food, or trade food.
3. Students eat lunch in a civilized manner, speaking at a conversational level. There should be no yelling, throwing things, unkind or inappropriate conversation.
4. Students in grades K-4 eat at their desks during the 20-minute lunch period. Students in grades 5-8 may move their chairs to another desk with the teacher's permission or the supervisor's permission.
5. Students must have the supervisor’s permission to use the restrooms.
6. Students may leave their seats to throw away trash or put away lunch boxes.
7. Students clean their desktops and the floor around them at the end of lunch.
8. Students stay in their seats until they are dismissed by the lunch supervisor, individually or by row, not all at once.
KOC Free Throw Contest
-- The Knights of Columbus Basketball Free Throw Championship will take place in the SJB gym from 10:30am - noon on Saturday, February 24th. Boys and Girls ages 9 - 14 are invited to participate. Local champions earn the right to compete at the district level! The aim is to encourage the values of sportsmanship and healthy competition with this meaningful and fun event.
