May Crowning Procession Begins at 10 am on Thursday, May 9 Parents are welcome to come to the school for the May Crowning Procession& Prayer Service on Thursday, May 9, at 10 am. The procession begins at the front of the school with a single-file silent walk around the parish center to the church doors, where the students enter for the May Crowning service. Students wear their regular uniforms in blue and white on the day of the May Crowning. We also ask that each child bring a flower (or a few flowers) to school for the May Crowning service. Here's a short video of a past May Crowning procession. SJB Auction is Live Until Friday The SJB auction site is open for bidding until May 10th! SJB Spring Play Was a Great Success The students saved their best performances for the bright lights before big audiences on Thursday and Friday nights. Thank you, Mr. Mendoza and Ms. Gomes, the directors; Mrs. Leishear, the art and set director; Mr. Robertson, Mrs. Case, Mrs. Morris, and Ms. Wendell, who helped with staging and choreography; Mr. Daly, Ms. Howell, and Mr. Caslani, sound technicians; Ms. Dodson, the costume director; Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald, after-party hosts; and the many teachers, staff, and parents who helped set up, break down, and support the spring play. Erin Tervo Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Ronan Fitzgerald The Erin Tervo Memorial Scholarship was awarded to 7th grade student Ronan Fitzgerald on Friday night, just before the start of the spring play. Mrs. Tervo's daughter, Megan, announced the award to Ronan, who was in costume, before the audience. The award goes to a 7th grade student who represents qualities of Mrs. Tervo: love of math, love of performing arts, love of liturgy, kindness and service to everyone. The scholarship is selected each year by the Erin Tervo Memorial Scholarship Committee, which is chaired by a family member and made up of teachers. Father Andrew, the parish pastor, introduced the members of the family who came for the award and the show: Megan Tervo and her sister Caitlin Tervo; their father and Erin's surviving husband, Jon Tervo; Mrs. Tervo's brother Patrick McCauley and Mrs. Tervo's parents, Dr. Paul McCauley and Kathleen McCauley. Mrs. Tervo's daughter, Shannon Tervo, was finishing final exams at Auburn University and couldn't attend. Mrs. Tervo was the upper-grade math teacher, liturgy director, concert and play coordinator at St. John the Baptist when she passed away suddenly in 2015 after the first week of school. She was in her 18th year of teaching at St. John the Baptist and had gone to school here as a student. Congratulations to Ronan, the 10th winner of the scholarship, and to the Fitzgerald family.
